Malta Chamber of Commerce Membership Meeting – Minutes

  1. Call to order- President Travis Rhoads
  2. Member Round Robin
  • Veseth – working on dentures
  • Kiwanis – Thursday, for Earth Day will be cleaning Riverview Park with BGC. Collected 86 pounds of pull tabs for donation to Ronald McDonald house
  • PC Museum – Now Open for the Season! New military displays with machine guns and uniforms.  School tours are starting and Dino Passports are on sale.
  • Art Spot – KidsMAT theater is in July, looking for sponsors. Kids art camp starts May 26, and runs throughout most of the summer with AM/PM or Both sessions. May 1st will start selling raffle tickets, 200 will be sold.  Winners drawn at the Fair.  Prizes include a 20 gauge shot gun and wood carving pieces, all prizes are valued between $100-$500.
  • 1st Security – business in focus is Robin’s Roost
  • IB – Mother’s Day drawing is May 6
  • PCN – Good articles coming up. A couple bought the old Carnegie Library and hoping to turn it into a B&B.  Article on Skate Park is coming in this week’s edition
  • FSB – Getting ready for Car Show the first weekend in June
  • Citizens – Blood Drive is Wednesday from 10:30-4:30. AARP Meal and a Movie is Apr 27 topic is how to protect yourself from Fraud.  Please RSVP – it’s on Facebook page
  • PCMS – Annual meeting is Apr 23 at noon. Do not have to be a member to attend.
  • KMMR – Senior Salutes are coming together. Reach out to them if you have a salute.
  • Parks and Rec – skate park has broken ground at Hillcrest Park. 5-6 weeks project timeline.  Radio-thon Wed Apr 27 to raise funds or in-kind donations for benches, restrooms, signs, etc.  Are going to have a few parking spots.  There is also plans for a BMX park in the old Ice Skating rink
  • Montartica – Blue Tattoo is booked for the Glasgow Catfish Classic. Hoping to bring the band to Malta too.

III. Committee and Administrative Reports

  • Merchants
  • Shop Hop Completed
    • Mixed reviews. Next year will look to hold on a Thursday/Friday. Consider including Easter Bunny Pictures
  • May and June Promotions
    • Mother’s Day and Father’s Day basket drawings.
    • Dina will be around the week of Apr 25 to collect any merchandise/dino dollars/gift cert you would like included. Let Dina know if you want her to stop by.
      • For each purchase shoppers make the two weeks leading up the each holiday, have them fill out a ticket with their name and phone. (let Dina know if you need  tickets)
      • Dina will come around the Friday before each holiday and collect the tickets. Drawing on the holiday and announced n KMMR.
  • Sports
    • None
  • Membership
    • Online Renewal Option
    • Feedback from two  that there may be errors with the form.  Dina is following up with Montana Grafix
  • Tourism and Marketing
    • PCLifestyle Campaign Video and Articles starting in June
      • Will do iPhone video interviews each month, talk about why you live in PC, and what you love about it – post videos to Facebook
      • Video transcripts will become print media articles
    • Border Sign progress
      • Northern border sign was noted by Dept. of Transportation for repairs.  PhillCo, Chamber and perhaps a few other groups will be working on repairing the sign
    • Historic Walking Tour Brochure  and Audio
      • Committee meeting this week to finalize stories for each stop, then will go into graphic design, voiceover.  Will be paper brochure as well as virtual brochure on chamber website.
  • Member Education and Investment
    • Mentoring Program – Launching at Members meeting
    • Phillips County Leadership Program – setting locations, start in July
      • Goals are to determine 6 locations to travel to by May
        • Ex: History Day at Museums/Dino Dig, Local Gov’t Day with City/County, School and Education Day, Hospital and Healthcare, CHS, MOI, Bear paw, etc.
      • Goal to reach out to businesses in June for participants
        • Will be a fee associated with participating to cover meals, materials, transportation
      • If you are interested in your business being a stop or if you have someone in your business you want to participate, let Dina know.
  • Technology
    • Community Education Spring Small Business Series – Apr 26 and May 10
      • RSVP please to Dina if you are attending
      • Dinner included – free classes
    • Confirmed partnership with Malta Schools for Fall
      • Will be sending out survey to determine interest for topics
    • Next meeting May 2 noon at Malta Business Center to see if facility will work for Tech Fair Event.

  • is LIVE!
    • Ad Space $120 per year – linked to your business website
      • This is a great way to get visibility for your business, and also the funds stay right with Chamber to cover our hosting annual fees, then directly back to programs that support your business.
      • Can get a report of how many times the ad was presented
      • Can update the add throughout the year.
  • Harlem Ambassadors Basketball – May 2
    • Get your tickets now and spread the word!



  1. New Business/Discussions
  • Malta Mentors Program Launch
    • This program pairs members with other members to help them build their skills.
    • We have a guidebook that will help frame your mentorship and be sure you stay on track to meet your goals
      • Each mentor/mentee pair will meet with a Member Education committee member to help them go through the guidebook and set up what their mentorship looks like.
    • A member can be both a mentor and a mentee
      • Let Dina know if you would like to be a mentee
      • If you would volunteer to be a mentor, let Dina know what skills you would be able to mentor others in
    • You can start at any time, all you need to do is let us know!
  • Monthly Training Session
    • Elevator Speech Launch
    • Elevator Speech was approved. Next month, will have small print cards available.
    • Start using your elevator speech when you talk to folks about living, working and doing business in Malta!
    • It is also located on the Chamber website under Strategy and Objectives



**Next Month – Candidate Roundtable**

Both state senate candidates, both state representative candidates and several County Commissioner Candidates are slated to attend. This will be an open forum to ask the candidates about their views and positions on business related issues.  Bring your questions and invite a friend to join us!
